ShiftMed, founded in 2019 and headquartered in McLean, Virginia, is an on-demand staffing app that employs CNAs, LPNs, RNs and allied professionals as W-2 employees and lets them pick up per diem shifts or multi-shift bundles at hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, rehab centers, surgery centers and in-home settings. As W-2 workers, clinicians have taxes withheld and are covered by workers' compensation, with access to healthcare benefits. Workers are paid weekly and can use Next Day Pay or Instant Pay to draw up to 65% of pre-tax earnings right after a shift; Guaranteed Shifts pays the full shift if a facility cancels, and an Uber Health partnership lets workers book rides to shifts in the app.
